Nigerians Blast Victor Moses For Not Making Chelsea Bench After Dumping Nigeria

Victor Moses will not make his second Premier League appearance of the new season in Chelsea’s game week three clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park this afternoon.

One of the big names omitted from The Blues squad is Moses, who quit international football eleven days ago in order to focus on his family and club.

The Blues number fifteen is behind Pedro, Eden Hazard and Willian in Maurizio Sarri’s pecking order of wingers and the trio have been included in the 18, with the Spaniard and Belgian starting, while the Brazilian is on the bench.

Chelsea’s Nigerian fans took to Twitter to question the decision of Moses to quit the Super Eagles when there’s uncertainty over his future with Chelsea following the arrival of Sarri, who prefers to play in a 4-3-3 formation.

Here are some selected Tweets :

@Benco14 : ”Victor Moses can’t even make the bench again? Hehehehehe seems days of guaranteed shirts are over, Willian knows he has to be exceptional to keep Hazard on the bench, sorry Pedro, but the diminutive Spaniard scores a lot. Between Cahill,Luiz and Christensen thats the final spot.”

@adetolafaruk : ”I look at @ChelseaFC line up and bench, then i realised @VictorMoses is sliding away from the team and dude quits Nigeria because he wants to focus on a team that has shifted its focus away from you. @NGSuperEagles is no man’s land, soldier go, soldier come, Barracks remain.”

@0luwo : ”victor moses didn’t even make chelsea’s bench for the match against Newcastle.Someone needs to remind Sarri that moses retired from international football to focus on club football”.

@Waju_ : ”Victor Moses retired from International football to focus on Chelsea but now he can’t even get into the 18 man squad. This God I serve

@debornair99 : ”Victor Moses should get another club ASAP…..Didn’t even make the bench”.

@Sam_Debayo : ”Victor Moses not even on the Bench. #NEWCHE”.

@jamesatts : ”@VictorMoses could not even make it to the bench? Is this the beginning of the end for him?”

@BusayoDurojaye : ”Victor Moses is not even on the bench. Is he injured? He only just retired from International football to focus on club football o. ”

@MrVincredible : ”Hazard and Kovacic finally starting. RLC on the bench. Victor Moses NOWHERE to be found.”

@ndabagi : ”Victor Moses not even making the bench i hope he is fine ?”

Can India complete historic comeback?

England lead India 2-1 with two tests to play

Having appeared down and out after their resounding innings defeat at Lord’s, India’s players suddenly have the scent of an unexpected comeback in their nostrils.

Unexpected… and almost unprecedented. Should Virat Kohli’s side follow up their 203-run victory over England at Trent Bridge with further successes in the remaining Tests, they will become only the second team in history to overturn a 2-0 deficit and triumph in a five-match series.

And the side that managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on that previous occasion? England.

Bradman led Australia to victory in the 1936-37 Ashes series after coming from 2-0 down
Bradman led Australia to victory in the 1936-37 Ashes series after coming from 2-0 down

To compound that calamity, it came in an Ashes series. Gubby Allen led the England side to Australia during the winter of 1936-37 – their first tour Down Under since the infamous ‘Bodyline’ series four years earlier.

But Bradman helped his team to regain the Ashes in 1934 and Australia’s star batsman was now handed the task of defending the urn in his first series as captain.

Bradman and Stan McCabe (right) both made centuries as Australia completed their comeback from 2-0 down to win the 1936-37 Ashes series

It did not begin well. Bradman – recently hit by personal tragedy with the loss of his baby son – was struggling for form and made a duck in the first Test at Brisbane as Australia were rolled over for just 58 in their second innings.

That 322-run defeat was followed by a heavier loss at Sydney, with Wally Hammond’s 231 not out anchoring an England total of 426-6 declared before the home side were bowled out for 80 and 324.

Bradman, who had recorded another duck in the first innings, did make 82 second time around – but his captaincy was roundly criticised in the Australian press and few gave his team any hope of clinging on to the Ashes.

The turning point came in the third Test at Melbourne, where batsmen on both sides struggled on a difficult wicket but, with conditions improving, Bradman radically changed the Australian batting order.

After sending out two tailenders to open, the skipper eventually came to the crease at No 7 and proceeded to hit 270, sharing a record sixth-wicket stand of 346 with Jack Fingleton as Australia went on to win by 365 runs.

As Bradman regained his form, so did his team – and they duly drew level in the fourth Test at Adelaide, with the captain chalking up another double hundred before left-arm spinner ‘Chuck’ Fleetwood-Smith took 10 wickets to secure a 148-run victory.

There was little doubt that momentum had shifted in Australia’s favour and Bradman, Stan McCabe and Jack Badcock all hit centuries as the home side racked up 604 in the fifth Test at the MCG before bowling England out cheaply twice to clinch an innings win and the series.

Bradman’s brilliance, coupled with the onset of the Second World War, meant it would be another 15 years before England held the Ashes again – a scenario that had seemed inconceivable when they held a 2-0 lead with three to play

Brendan Rodgers laments Celtic defending

Brendan Rodgers was unhappy with how Celtic defended against Suduva

Brendan Rodgers claimed his Celtic side lacked pride in defending after the Hoops conceded another avoidable goal in the 1-1 draw against Suduva in the first leg of their Europa League play-off in Lithuania.

Midfielder Olivier Ntcham got the visitors off to a fine start in the ARVI Football Arena when he headed in a Mikey Johnston cross in the third minute.

But Ovidijus Verbickas levelled in the 13th minute with a headed goal from a free-kick into the box which frustrated the Parkhead boss, who lamented poor defending in the 2-1 defeat by AEK Athens last week which ended their Champions League qualifying hopes.

The Northern Irishman said: “We gave away a soft goal. That is a real, real concern now. We are not giving away many chances but we don’t defend the set-piece well enough.

“We seem to lack concentration. That is a problem for us. And a pride, really, in terms of defending.

“That is pretty clear. In games like this one, especially away from home, we have got to really demonstrate that hunger not to concede. And it was too easy for them.

“It was a terrific ball in, don’t get me wrong, but we have to defend it much better than that. It gave them some oxygen in the game when our start and early goal shouldn’t have.

“I thought we made really hard work of it, to be honest.

“We made a good start, Mikey Johnston showed a great bit of skill and I thought he did well for his first start in a European game. That was the perfect start.

Olivier Ntcham headed Celtic into an early lead
Olivier Ntcham headed Celtic into an early lead

“But after that we came off plan a wee bit. We were running too much, blocking each other’s spaces and not really playing with the tempo and intensity which we want”.

Celtic failed in a recent bid for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna with the Dons not interested in the reported £3.5m offer.

There is still uncertainty about the future of Dedryck Boyata who was unfit to travel, a week after Rodgers said he had been fit to play against AEK Athens, contrary to the Belgium international’s claim.

Asked how he felt he could solve the defensive woes going forward, the former Swansea and Liverpool boss said: “There are numerous answers to this. Whilst you work with what is here, you have to try and improve it, make it better.

“For me, it’s a level of concentration, a pride in your defending and an aggression in your defending. These are really important factors.

“I felt for the supporters tonight. They have come all the way out there, maybe 200 of them, on trains, buses, the whole thing.

“It’s a disappointing performance from them. Okay, they have seen a goal but we have to be much better.”

Thierry Henry offered Bordeaux job

Thierry Henry is set to decide on the Bordeaux job over the weekend

Bordeaux have offered Thierry Henry the job as head coach on a long-term contract.

The 41-year-old has asked for time to consider their offer and has said he will make a decision over the weekend.

Henry, who left his role as a Sky Sports pundit in the summer to concentrate on his coaching career, was linked with the Aston Villa job earlier this summer.

The Frenchman has been working as an assistant to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez since 2016 and was part of the backroom staff that led the team to third place at the World Cup in Russia.

Bordeaux sold striker Gaetan Laborde to rivals Montpellier and Poyet reacted furiously after their Europa League win over FC Mariupol, labelling the transfer “a disgrace”.

Poyet was suspended for a week with Eric Bedouet taking over for Sunday’s league clash with Toulouse, which saw Bordeaux fall to a 2-1 defeat.

Henry played in Ligue 1 between 1994-1999 with Monaco before moving to Juventus.

The former France forward made 254 appearances for Arsenal between 1999 and 2007 and won 123 caps for his country.

Tiger ‘close’ to Ryder cup pick

Woods feels he is “very close” to making a return to Ryder Cup action as one of Jim Furyk’s captain’s picks.

Woods narrowly missed out on automatic qualification for Team USA when he finished runner-up to Brooks Koepka at the PGA Championship after a thrilling final-round charge, and his hopes of competing at Le Golf National next month now hinge on him being one of Furyk’s four wildcards.

The 42-year-old is widely expected to be added to the team when Furyk unveils his first three picks on September 4, and Woods believes his overall form since returning to the PGA Tour makes him worthy of selection for his Ryder Cup appearance since 2012.

Woods is currently on Furyk’s backroom team for the showpiece in France, although the US skipper admitted last week that he would find an alternate assistant captain if he named the 14-time major champion as one of his wildcards.

“The interesting role here is that I’m a vice captain, so we’re talking about myself in the third person a lot. So, that’s one of the more interesting conversations we were having.

Woods needs a wildcard pick from Jim Furyk to feature in Paris

“We were having a lot of fun with it, but I’m one of the guys on the shortlist. I want to be picked and I want to be part of the team.

“It’s been a long year and one of my goals was to make that team, because to be part of that team, you’ve got to be one of the 12 best players and I’m kind of trending towards that.”

Making the team as a player was one of Woods' main goals this year

Woods also revealed that he was intending to play in all four of the FedExCup Play-Off events over the next five weeks, although he remains wary of the fatigue factor leading into his prospective Ryder Cup return.

“I’m playing the first three right now and that should get me into Atlanta and on the back side is obviously The Ryder Cup,” added Woods, who finished the regular season in 20th place on the FedExCup standings, with the top 30 following the BMW Championship competing in the season-ending Tour Championship.

Woods is intending to play in all four of the FedExCup Play-Off events

“That is a lot of golf, so it’s about pacing myself and making sure I don’t practice too much and making sure my training schedule goes well.

“One of the hardest things this year has been trying to find the right balance and, as the summer has gone on, I’ve got better and felt better, and this is a pretty important stretch.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has echoed Gary Neville’s claim that Unai Emery’s philosophy must be given time to flourish at Arsenal.

The Armenia international has jumped to the defence of his new head coach, who drew criticism for his expansive approach in the Gunners’ defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Neville disagreed with Jamie Carragher’s suggestion that Emery needed to adapt his style to suit Premier League football.

And, in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, Mkhitaryan said: “Everyone has their own opinion. We know very well what we are playing for and how we have to play

“If we are just going to kick the ball up front and wait for God to give us a chance to score, it’s not necessary.

“The only thing we have to do is to work hard, believe in ourselves and use the chances we create to score goals.”

Mkhitaryan, who scored Arsenal’s first goal in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge – the first league goal of Emery’s tenure – added: “It was pleasure to score and assist in a game against Chelsea.

“We’re not happy with the result but we know where we’re going, what we’re doing, what the coach is demanding from us and we’re trying to do that.

“We can say we had a hard schedule having played Manchester City and Chelsea, but we had to face them now or later so it doesn’t matter.

“We did our best, in one case we can say we were unlucky a bit, but that is football, it can happen. The most important thing is to stay positive, believe in ourselves and to keep working the same way and the result will come.

“We are creating chances. Maybe we are not as good to score at the moment but I think it’s just the first few games.

“We are going to try and realise them for the next games, maybe it can work, maybe it won’t, but we are going to try and we want to win, that is the main thing.”

The defeat at Stamford Bridge saw Emery become the first Arsenal boss to lose his first two games in charge since Steven Burtenshaw, who lost the first three games of his caretaker spell at the club in 1986.

Emery has been tasked with following in the footsteps of Arsene Wenger, whose 22-year spell at the club came to an end this summer, and Mkhitaryan has likened both of their managerial philosophies.

“It’s not too different but there are different things because there is not people playing in the same way or thinking in the same way, the philosophy is different,” he added.

“Emery kept the philosophy of Wenger but is building something new on it. He knows he can give something different to this club, like the balance between attack and defence. It’s not easy but I think he’s doing it in the right way.

“We have to keep working because we have a new manager, a new philosophy and want to play in a different way than before under Wenger.

“It’s not too easy but we are trying to achieve that and do what the coach is asking from us. He wants to play football and dominate the game and that’s what we’re doing, we’re not just kicking the ball up front.

“We are trying to play football, our second goal against Chelsea we had 19 consecutive passes and then Alex [Iwobi] finished the attack and we scored.

“It’s a new philosophy, we have to accept that and work hard to achieve our goals.”

World’s First’ Underwater Villa to Open in the Maldives Later This Year

World’s First’ Underwater Villa to Open in the Maldives Later This Year

And it only cost $15 million to build.

Courtesy Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

The Maldives may call to mind gorgeous overwater bungalows set above the Indian Ocean, but theConrad’s Rangali Island is about to subvert that trend— literally . Later this year, the resort will debut what it claims to be the “world’s first” (partially) undersea residence, the result of a $15 million investment, according to the official press release . (It’s worth noting that Dubai started rolling out partially underwater luxury villas in 2016, but not all of them are open/available for purchase yet.) Named The Muraka (which translates to “coral” in the local language, Dhivehi), the villa will be a two-level structure, with the living area above water, and the main bedroom underwater. If you’ve ever wanted to live The Little Mermaid in real life, now’s your chance.

Submerged five meters (16.4 feet), the underwater suite has clear, acrylic walls that provide a panoramic view of the surrounding ocean and wildlife (insert “sleeping with the fishes” joke here). There’s a king-sized bed, where you can kick back and watch all the vibrantly colored fish swim by, as well as a living area and bathroom. Should you want to surface, the upper level is connected by a spiral staircase, and it’s just as luxurious as the underwater suite, if not more so. There are two more bedrooms, a living room, bathroom, kitchen, bar, and outdoor “relaxation” deck positioned to face sunrise—with an infinity pool, naturally. But the Conrad really went the extra mile by adding butler’s quarters—yes, you read that right. The site promises that up to nine people can fit in The Muraka, so you can book a fun trip for the whole family (and then some).

Believe it or not, this is the Conrad’s Rangali Island’s second undersea venture—the first is Ithaa restaurant, which opened in 2005 and is also 16 feet below sea level. Guests can enjoy a dinner of “coconut-crusted légine (cod icefish), served with curry bisque, steamed sea beans and spicy sea snails” while sharks swim overhead—talk about a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. The addition of The Muraka villa represents the Conrad’s push to continue experimenting with new architecture and technology. “We are excited to see The Muraka bring to life the contemporary design, leading innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that serve as the foundation for the Conrad brand,” said Martin Rinck, Global Head, Luxury & Lifestyle Brands, Hilton, in a statement. “With the development of the world’s first undersea residence, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island will offer visitors the opportunity to experience the Maldives like never before.”

The Muraka’s over-the-top amenities come with a pretty hefty price tag, according to Architectural Digest , with the starting nightly rate estimated to be $50,000 a night . (Which begs the question, do you want to rent a hotel room, or buy a car?) However, even if you can afford to shell out the nightly rate, the project won’t be completed until November this year. In the meantime, we’ve got a list of our favorite beach resorts in the Maldives, Fiji, and beyond , that you can escape to ASAP—and won’t break the bank quite as much.

Suspect SARS killed boyfriend and girlfriend (photos)

Social media user with the Twitter handle, @Pamelsuccess shared recently a story of her friend, who she says was killed by Special Anti-robbery Squad(SARS).

With all the unpleasant SARS stories shared by Nigerians on social media, this one further threw the Anti robbery squad into bad light.

@Pamelsuccess via her twitter handle said that SARS officers were behind the killing of the young girl, and her boyfriend, who were found dead on Wednesday June 20th, were killed by SARS officers.

According to multiple reports, Juliana and her boyfriend were missing for weeks after going out on a date – the boyfriend’s car was found with just her slippers inside. Their decomposing bodies were found inside a bush, after police investigation and searching.

However, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Shogunle Abayomi has refuted @Pamelsuccess ‘ claims, saying the youngster were killed by Yahoo Yahoo boys and not SARS officers.

He also urged parents to warn their daughters to stay of Yahoo boys. See what he wrote below;

A sad case.
Those involved in this kidnap & murder case have been arrested by @PoliceNG IRT & SARS operatives.
Suspects are not SARS as maliciously stated by •pamelasuccess.
Motive is linked to suspected illicit business gone wrong.
